The selection process is different from Group-I recruitment.
There is no separate Screening Test and no Interview for the Horticulture Officer recruitment.
The process consists of:
Stage 1: Computer Based Recruitment Test

The CPT is qualifying in nature and does not add marks to the written examination merit.
APPSC Horticulture Officer Exam Pattern 2026
The written examination is of Degree standard and consists of a qualifying language test followed by three merit-ranking papers.
Written Examination Pattern
| Paper | Subject | Questions | Duration | Marks |

APPSC Horticulture Officer Recruitment 2026: Preparation Strategy
The Horticulture Officer examination has a relatively specialised syllabus. Candidates with a strong B.Sc. Horticulture background have an obvious advantage, but only if they convert their academic knowledge into objective-exam preparation.
Focus First on the Three Merit Papers
The three papers together account for 450 marks:
- General Studies & Mental Ability: 150
- Horticulture-I: 150
- Horticulture-II: 150
The qualifying language paper should not be ignored, but the bulk of preparation time should go toward these three papers.
Prepare Horticulture Crop-Wise
For every major crop, create a compact revision sheet covering:
Origin → Botanical name → Family → Varieties → Climate → Soil → Propagation → Planting → Training → Pruning → Nutrition → Irrigation → Major pests → Diseases → Physiological disorders → Harvesting → Post-harvest management
This approach is considerably more effective than reading crop chapters repeatedly without a revision structure.
Give Special Attention to Andhra Pradesh
For General Studies, candidates should cover:
- Andhra Pradesh geography
- AP economy
- AP history
- AP polity
- Government schemes
- Agriculture and horticulture programmes
- Irrigation projects
- Environmental issues
- State current affairs
Practice With Negative Marking
Because one-third negative marking applies, mock tests should be used to improve accuracy, not simply attempt count.
After every mock test, divide mistakes into:
- Knowledge gap
- Misreading
- Calculation error
- Guessing error
- Confusion between two similar options
This creates a useful feedback loop.
Common Mistakes in APPSC Horticulture Officer Preparation
Ignoring the Official Syllabus
Candidates sometimes study from an entire B.Sc. Horticulture curriculum without identifying what APPSC actually requires.
Neglecting General Studies
The specialised papers may feel more comfortable to horticulture graduates, but Paper-I carries 150 marks and can significantly affect ranking.
Ignoring Plant Protection
Entomology and pathology are often memorisation-heavy. Leaving them for the final weeks can create a serious revision burden.
Underestimating Crop Details
Candidates should know crop-specific varieties, propagation methods, disorders, pests, diseases and production practices.
Not Practising Objective Questions
University examinations and competitive examinations require different answer strategies. A candidate can understand a topic thoroughly and still lose marks through poor MCQ technique.
Forgetting the CPT
The Computer Proficiency Test is qualifying. Candidates shortlisted for it must clear the prescribed standard.

The APPSC Horticulture Officer Recruitment 2026 is an important opportunity for candidates holding a four-year B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Horticulture. With 37 vacancies, a notified pay scale of ₹54,060 to ₹1,40,540, and applications open from 06 October to 27 October 2026, eligible candidates should complete the application process well before the deadline.
The examination deserves a focused preparation strategy because the recruitment does not follow the familiar Prelims-Mains-Interview structure used by APPSC Group-I. Instead, candidates face a single-level CBRT, consisting of a qualifying English and Telugu test and three 150-mark merit papers. The three merit papers cover General Studies and Mental Ability, Horticulture-I and Horticulture-II.
The biggest scoring opportunity lies in the two technical horticulture papers. Candidates should therefore revise crop production technology systematically, paying attention to varieties, propagation, climate, soil, nutrition, irrigation, pests, diseases, physiological disorders, harvesting and post-harvest management.
At the same time, General Studies should not be treated as filler. Andhra Pradesh current affairs, geography, economy, polity, science and environmental issues can make a substantial difference to the final score.
Candidates should also prepare for the Computer Proficiency Test after the written examination. The CPT is qualifying, so clearing the written examination alone does not complete the recruitment process.
